The “shredded” look which is the most desired among young people these days almost always comes out as a part of a preparation for a physique show or for a role in a movie. These two things are temporary and once the event or shoot is over, the person comes back to their normal lifestyle.
When someone is shredded or ripped, they are roughly in a 5-7% bodyfat range, sometimes even lesser than 5%, which for most isn’t sustainable in the long run. One has to be under a serious caloric deficit, cut down salt and shed down a lot of water to get the look. I don’t think this can be continued for months together, it will make you a zombie who can’t even feed on humans because that might increase a few calories here and there :D. There are a few people who could really sustain that low bodyfat %, but then those are in the minorities of minority. We are talking about the majority of people here.
On top of this, there are multimillion contracts which are at stake if someone falls off the wagon. Hence, as a part of their job, they have to get that look in a certain timeframe.
Now, you might also be questioning the involvement of performance enhancement drugs or steroids and totally understand where you come from and I am also not disregarding the fact that it could also be used when so many things are rolling.
No judgement towards any specific individual or a job, but then influencing youngsters and standardizing certain diets or exercise concepts really doesn't help but bring in further more frustration among the youth which also leads them to use certain unethical methods - unethical in not just the illegal sense, but poor youngsters forget the value of earning things and always look out for shortcuts because celebs portray such fake images everywhere.
More so, the typical "transformation" videos you see on television or online of some celebrity molding themself into Greek Gods within a span of few weeks is majorly due to the fact that they have been there at a certain point in their lives where they built muscle and lost fat and they understand how to get there. There is something known as muscle memory which signals to the brain on the perceived exertion they have to put up to push themselves plus the exact number of calories they need to feed themselves upon including the foods that they now had helped them out. If an average individual starts this transformation journey, it may take years to build a muscle memory plus their body's response to food.
Point to be emphasized is that there are umpteen facets to something that people portray in front of the world through media and one has to always take a step back, think and do their own research before jumping to conclusions, no matter how respected the celebrity is. When it comes to media and money, people change faces easily.
