It was around 11:30 pm when we got our wake up call, all packed and layered on a cold Thansing campsite, we had our night breakfast of Dalia and Vermicelli. Filled up our water bottles with ORS and laced up our boots. It was minus temperature and hence we were all packed with four layers.
Supposed to walk in a formation towards Samiti lake, we started in the dark with headlights on, not knowing the trail, but getting a glimpse of a Summit Push !!.
We crossed around three streams of river with one of them being tricky where almost everyone slipped, but thankfully i could balance and my leg wasn't wet :P
Couple of loo and water breaks, it was almost 4-ish in the morning when we reached Samiti Lake where our IndiaHikes trek lead Dhaval called for breaking the formation and making our own way to the summit - view point 1.
With the trail now easily visible, I started to speed up, little did I know, apart from being at roughly 14,000ft, I was climbing another 1000. Too much of humping thumping and cuss words in between when I looked back to see no one, however I could see couple of people in front of me - Vibhas shouted " we must speed up, it's gonna be sunrise in another 15 min" and we were half way roughly.
This was a real chase against the sun! It was almost trying my best to run on the trail but still unable to😓
But there was a trail to the left where the peaks were visible and we finally got a chance to see the red glow on Kanchenjunga. Phew!!
Finally managed to climb some 20 odd feet including a tricky ridge where I had to lean against a wall and walk. We just sat there soaking in the beauty of the world around us and the happiness that was felt just from what we have done so far🙏
We spent almost an hour and a half, eating snacks and clicking photos with the IndiaHikes banner before proceeding towards Samiti lake and finally to Thansing.
