We have all heard of the phrases “successful people have late nights early mornings “, ” grind till you have nothing left in you”, ” train till failure, or don’t train at all”…not always the best of the choices. In fact this can be detrimental to the body as it might add to your current stresses and might eventually bring u to a halt. If you run a car at max speed on a highway eventually the engine will give up after a certain distance and you’ll have to stop totally. On the contrary, if it is run at an avg to high speed with regular halts and condition checks, it will cover the desired distance efficiently and faster than the max speedos.
Here are some of the major stresses we all have in our day to day lives : 1. At Home : emotional, financial, child related, spouse related. 2. At Work : colleagues, boss, work culture, pending work, competition 3. In Training : going to failure regularly, too much volume with too much frequency, ego lifting, going balls out daily.
So how do we destress??? Don’t shy away from resting. No matter what you read and listen to. RECOVERY WILL HELP WITH PRODUCTIVITY AND GROWTH 10 FOLD Some people who are smart enough to handle the above stresses know the importance of regeneration and capacity planning. They work hard and recover hard. Once they are recovered they can work double as hard. Below are some areas where we can focus on regularly to rejuvenate themselves:
1. Food : clean organic food with lots of hydration. Food must be tweaked as per weather and physical / mental stress. Eg. If it is the summer and we have gone balls out in the gym, sip on coconut water throughout the day. If it is the winter and we are sitting on our ass staring at the computer for hours, reduce total calories from food, you’ll feel more energetic.
2. Walking/ hiking : no one knew that an activity as simple as walking can have profound effect on recovery. Simply go out, preferably in the woods and walk for no set time, no cell phones, no calculations of time distance and blah blah. De clutter your mind, breathe and walk admiring the beautiful nature. Go for a hike away from the technology and vehicles. Keep moving. This vibratory motion of walking helps the body like meditation and destresses it. Remember the hike shouldn’t be an adventure which induces fear because again this fear and overcoming it will add to the stress we have.
3. Breathe : majority of us don’t know how to breathe. We have all been locked up in our head brain in such a way that all we do is breathe till the upper chest and done. This is a major dysfunction which makes us more panicky, and hypertense in situations which demand more out of us. Always breathe deep into the belly and as Elliott Hulse says ” breathe into your balls”. You will feel the difference immediately. Will share more on breathing detail later.
4. Sit in Solitude : many of us are in a beta state. Always arguing, commenting, talking, listening to songs, listening to people, watching TV etc. The mind needs to rest. Stop the information overflow, isolate yourself, sit across a river steam and listen to the flowing water, the birds chirping, the breeze flowing…these are the alpha frequencies. They act as cleansing agents to our beta body and makes us grounded, relaxed, shoulders down, eyebrows relaxed and deep breathing.
5. Have fun : ever heard of work hard party hard ? Go out and dance your heart out, laugh like a kis with friends and family, play games, play sports. Fight the monotony, the machine like system…..go jump on the trampoline, sing loud in the karaoke, watch a good movie or just sit with friends and chit chat.
6. Training : don’t go balls out day in day out. Plan out recovery, plan out the rest days even if pros don’t tell the same. Don’t copy the pros, theor intake is different than ours, their life’s stresses are different than ours. High volume means low frequency(once a day per body part), high frequency means low volume( pulling 3rice a week means total sets divided by 3 to be comlleted in 3 sessions per week). Learn self massage techniques with foam roller, lacrosse ball or tennis ball. More on self myofascial release later.
6. Let go : this is something which most of us dont know how to. We cling on to unnecessary stuff in our head brain and it eats up the body beyond which we are unable to absorb other important growth related information. However, if we let go of whatever we can’t control, things start falling in place. Once we let that shit go and move on to other important stuff, the body feels free from the clutches of tge head brain and we are in a state of finding fruitful solutio s to the most complex problems and eventually we can attack them and kill them permanently. Bruce Lee once said ” donot seek, let it go, do it’ll come when least expected, donot seek or run away”. The Masters let go, it’s time we must too.
