If you're into contact sports or in any athletic endeavor or training in general, you must be aware of the effect that grip strength has on the performance of all movements. If you have a strong "hold", you will automatically be able to push, pull and haul heavier loads. This is due to the phenomenon known as "irradiation" which means, power transfer to the other areas of the body from your extremities.
If your grip is strong, this strength "signal" is carried over to your upper body through your forearms and everything becomes tight and ready to fire.
Bruce Lee used to demonstrate the power of his one inch punch by clinching the fist tight which ultimately transferred power to the other areas of his body and he used to fire all this "tension" from his fist as a powerful one inch punch.
In contact sports like wrestling and MMA, a lot of grappling and takedowns occur during the fight for which the fighter needs to have a crushing grip strength along with great pulling strength. This inverted row variation will work exactly that. By holding on to the two ends of a rope pulling yourself up, you're not only performing a general inverted row, but because of you clinching the rope so tight, you're working the hell out of your grip and forearms. The movement in of itself is very close to a grapple or a wrestling takedown.
