It might sound like a cliched satement about mountains calling people in the midst of their life and somehow these people need to answer this call and visit the mountains to find new perspectives. But have you ever wondered what really happens when the mountains call?
If you have never visited the mountains then the first thing to do is just be there, not hastily, take your time to immerse yourself in the experience of standing in awe of the giant snowy peaks. It might not require you to spend a month, even a couple of days without distraction amongst these heavenly gods should be enough.
Once you are back in the hustle bustle of the city life, things aren't normal right from the word go. It takes time for your nervous system, your heart and your body to get back to the noise, commotion, vehicles, chattering crowd and the weather because it has been under meditative state up there amongst pure air, lush blue skies and nature play. This transition is easy initially when you've been to the mountains maybe once or twice, but as you frequent your visits there, you will start to feel that "pull-back" as if someone literally hooks you at your waist and pulls you back to themselves and a parallel "push-back" from the busy city where slowly you realise that you don't really fit in.
Think of this as a transition, a change of state where the more you travel to the mountains, the more you leave parts of you up there and the less you bring back and who doesn't wish to find parts of themselves by either climbing the rock and ice or camping next to them or simply watching them from a nearby house changing colors from brown to green to white and back!
There are no events but thoughts and the heart's hard turning, the heart's slow learning where to love and whom. The rest is merely gossip, and tales for other times - Annie Dillard.
Mountains are a challenge, they demand more out of you, they demand the better of you and they demand your mental and physical state to be completely present to the moment. When you overcome your older self, you find certain new parts of yourself that were hidden and about to be vanished down there in the city.
Be grateful to the mountains, for they are not just awestruckingly beautiful to look at, but also pose a challenge for you to be one with nature and the best version of yourself!
More travels!
