You are not using your entire brain - Where the society goes wrong

The human brain has immense potential. We have jumped on moon, took selfies on top of Mt.Everest, explored 35000ft under water and inspired millions with our experiences. However, if you talk to your neighbor or the one next to you in a train, you will notice a hard belief system indicating that the human potential is somehow an esoteric feature only possessed by the "immortals" of the society - the ones who are studying in elite institutes or the ones doing well in their businesses or jobs. In short, the academic excellence is tagged as human potential. No wonder why we are all heady(too much in our heads - thinking and trying to create logic) and were made to "sit-down" in our schools and colleges to cram square roots, formulas and abbreviations. Logic is taking over emotional intelligence and instinct.


While applying logic in certain areas is required and it helps, one simply cannot rationalize everything there is in this world. Most things are simply felt and expressed, you cannot calculate fear, dream, confidence, anger and love for instance and you require a certain type of physical intelligence to understand these areas.

How do we literally express ourselves? Through our words and actions! And if you observe closely, what goes on in your body comes out through your words and actions. Someone who has a super sharp head brain but closed up chest and gut areas (sitting position and hunched posture) will have a hard time understanding and expressing feelings and instinctive actions, they would be rather robotic in their approach. While someone not too much into rationale but is super hyped and open in the body would act free and more wild, more animalistic! We need to have a sweet balance between the logic, emotion/feeling and the instinct or gut.

The human brain is thus the sum of logic, feeling and instinct.

In the above example of being closed up in the chest and gut area, too many of us are used to sitting and applying our head brain and not really bothering about how we treat the body below the brain because we are being wrongly advised on the mantra of success which is linked to intelligence limited to the head brain only. This not only shows that we give immense power to the head brain (which ultimately is the prime cause of overthinking syndrome), it also paves the way to look down upon people who take care of their bodies. In our day to day lives we see a lot of people who are too absorbed in rationalizing the heck out of their lives and still feeling dissatisfied because they haven't even tried to access the other two-thirds of their brain lying in the heart and pelvis - the emotional and mammalian/instinctive.

How do we learn to use the other two-third brain?

It comes down to making a conscious decision to enhance your capability as a human on earth and to understand that there is more to life than applying logic, thinking and overmanipulating stuff.

  • You need to start with deep belly breathing. Most of the heady population out there cannot even take a deep relaxed breath. Most of your breaths are limited to the upper torso area causing you to deteriorate your posture even more and make you anxious. Belly breathing will ensure that you are feeling the air in your lower belly and the chest as it fills the torso.

  • Opening up your thoracic or upper spine area with daily practice of stretches and extension exercises with a foam roller will ensure you keep your shoulder blades back and open your chest up - great for accessing the emotional center.

  • Finally, letting go of the society's idea of sucking your belly button in all the time. Your fear of judgement is hampering you in ways you don't even understand. Instead of always sucking your belly in, let it hang loose, breathe deep, breathe into your balls and ovaries. Eat right and exercise using resistance to keep the extra weight off. To further facilitate opening up of the pelvic area which comprises primarily of the hip flexors and abdominal muscles, you need to add stretches and mobility drills on a daily basis to see a profound change.

Human beings will be able to truly express themselves when they can utilize the entire brain power in unison. In critical business decisions there are elements of risk(instinct), social cause(emotional) and financial rationale(logic/calculation). To climb a mountain, one has to be physically adept, have a solid reason(emotional center) to take up the challenge(risks=instinct) and sane(logic/rationale) enough to understand the realities of the harsh environment and know when to stop and when to move forward.

In situations where either of these brains are required to be accessed one should be aware which button(s) to press. To ask your favorite girl or a guy out, all the logic in the world will convince you not to do it, but deep down when you see them you know you need to talk to them or be with them, that is where your instinctive brain or gut feeling is accessed and you ask them out. Even when your business is under loss and everyone's going crazy but one of your teammates is struggling with his health, you need to access your emotional brain to support him during that time.


This understanding of when to access which area is literally the epitome of human potential and gives you supreme power. The only way you can challenge the status quo and turn the tides is by applying yourself fully through conscious effort and it takes a lot of hard work and a strong reason to make a change from where you are.

This way, you create your own definition of success and not rely upon the opinion of the society or of the past which has limited visibility on the human potential.


I challenge you to step up in life and make this one conscious change to see the magic that feels God-like right now!
